National Storytelling week 2018

National Storytelling week is approaching. This is a chance to promote and celebrate the art of oral storytelling. Storytelling is emphasised in the Steiner Waldorf curriculum for children and for good reason, as there are so many benefits. To name a few - it helps expand children's vocabulary and ignites their imagination; it is a nurturing experience that helps children explore values and develop their understanding and empathy; it supports children to develop listening skills and makes learning fun and effortless.

I love storytelling and I hope to do more of it in the years to come. I have been fortunate to have received training from the International School of Storytelling. There I have learnt tips to select appropriate stories for different age children; learnt techniques to get children involved in the stories; and learnt to weave in music, songs, actions and puppets in order to support children's concentration and engagement.

Over the next month I will be bringing stories to Abbey Hill Primary in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Carnarvon Primary in Bingham and Stepping Stones Nursery and Carrington School, Nottingham.

Please get in touch if you would like me to bring stories to your children this year, whether that is in a nursery school or primary school setting or at a party, community event or festival.
